Robinson Crusoe
February 3rd, 2008 by WTJI read Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe again. Personally I think this is a great book.
Penguin Popular Classics
Robinson Crusoe is a wealthy trader whose adventures at sea end when he is ship-wrecked and marooned alone on a remote island. There he discovers a man who he calls Friday - and the limits of his own innate resourcefulness when stripped of goods and money.
Robinson Crusoe Didn’t Listen To His Father.
Before Robinson Crusoe set off to his adventure at sea, his father told him not to do so. His father offered him a secure and beautiful future, but Robinson refused to accept. He went to sea with his friend without the approval of his father. When he was in trouble, he started to regret and wished he could go back to accept his father’s offer. His guilt to his father and regrets were fast forgotten when he got out from the miserable moment.
Robinson Crusoe is like a lot of entrepeuners who likes to take risks, rather than choosing a safer path of life. Robinson Crusoe also showed the mistake that many people always made, which is not learning from the mistake. Although Robinson Crusoe knew that it was risky to set off to the sea, he still decided to do it even he did not have to do it anymore.
Money And Goods Had No Use On An Island.
When Robinson Crusoe discovered himself alone on the island, he went back to his ship. He had found many valuable goods and money, but they were no use to him. In stead he chose to take tools, such as knife, with him returning back to the island. Later days on the island, Robinson also domesticated some animals for his unlimit supplies of food.
Money doesn’t work everytime. A lot of people said that if they have enough money, they can invest in a business that guarantees earning. This is not true. Use what you have and what is truly useful to you. If you only have a lemon left with you, what would you do? Will you throw it away? Or will you use it to plant a lemon tree? Or you sell it to earn the profit to buy even more lemons to sell? The choice is yours.
Robinson Crusoe And Religion.
In the early life of Robinson Crusoe, he was an agnostic. When he was alone on the island, a lot of things that he experienced amazed him how crazy life can be. He was the only survival, but he experienced so many tragedies. He was trapped on an island, but the island had so many natural resources that kept him living. In the end, he started to believe in God.
What happened here? Mental support is the key thing at the changing of Robinson Crusoe becoming religious. He was alone on the island, and he had no one to talk to except his pets. People need something to support for their doings. Before he was on the island, he had a lot of hopes and dreams that kept him living. He controlled a lot of things without the help of God. That made him believed in himself. When he was on the island, he lost everything. Then he had totally different things on the island that allowed him to continue living on the island. But what is the purpose of living on the island? He gave out the hope of getting away from the island. The only purpose to continue living is believing in God. If you are selling a product, do you give your consumers a purpose to buy it? I noticed a lot of products that do not sell don’t give consumers a reason to buy them.
Robinson Crusoe And Friday.
Friday was the first man Robinson Crusoe lived with on the island. Friday did not know english when they first met. Robinson named him ‘Friday’ and taught Friday to call him ‘Master’. Robinson knew that Friday did not know the meaning of ‘Master’, but he was doing that just to fulfill his desire to control things. Robinson gave resources to Friday and Friday provided his service in return of the favor. Then Robinson had to expand his breeding of lambs and also barley and rice in order to feed Friday. Does this phenomenon explained why the rich gets richer in order to have more poor people to work for them?
The Fate Of The Island.
Robinson Crusoe treated like island like his empire. His cave was his castle. At the end of the story, he even brought people to live on that island and he sent goods to them. The island is a great place to live at since there were no monsterous animals and had many natural resources. The island is like a company. What Robinson did was like expanding his firm.
